Meet the people

Blake Andrew Jolyn Haley James

Blake Bluesnel (HOST)

Bio

I moved to Austin when I was four, from the sprawl of northern Dallas, and grew up hiking through the Barton Creek greenbelt, running with dogs , fishing for crawfish, drawing, writing and wanting to make movies. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Radio Television and Film from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007, and a minor in English. I’ve been working in and all around the Austin film and video industry since 2005, occupying as varied positions as 2nd Assistant Director, Key PA and Assoc. Production Coordinator on feature films to director, writer, producer and on-screen talent of several web series. I primarily operate camera and edit for corporate clients, ENG shoots, television, web and photography gigs.

Business aside, I’m often consumed by wanderlust, consider the company of friends an essential creature comfort, love to write, create, joke and cook. New York, Southern California and West Texas are always on my mind, in addition to some holes-in-the-wall in Austin that I hope remain off the general public’s radar. Austin has become a veritable wellspring for creative concepts, new media, fresh ideas and a perennial laid-back vide. Austin’s also my middle name, after the Texas forefather Stephen F. Austin. Perhaps odd, considering I’m just a second-generation American and don’t have any family roots in Texas. The name’s come to reflect my own ambitions, growth and laid-back nature, much like the town.
Essentially, I’m a dog person who wants to make movies, visual media and meet as many people as I can.

Andrew McDonald

Bio

I grew up in a small town, Aledo, outside of Ft. Worth, TX, with my mom, dad, and older brother, Ian. My parents come from polar opposite backgrounds: my mother grew up in the North of England, and my father is from a small, rural town in central Texas. This allowed for a diversified upbringing because on one hand, we would visit my dad’s family on the ranch where we would tend to the cows, ride horses, and help with work in the fields. On my mom’s side, we would fly overseas, take road trips throughout the English countryside, and fly to Paris to visit the Louvre. It gave me an appreciation for varied cultures and an appetite for new experiences.

I moved to Austin, TX, in 2002 to attend The University of Texas at Austin where I studied Radio/TV/Film and graduated in 2006. Since then I have been working as a freelance videographer, editor, and motion graphic designer in Austin. I love to travel, and since 2003, I have visited 18 countries in Europe, 3 provinces of Canada, and 25 states in the U.S.

In addition to traveling, I enjoy staying active outdoors. I participate in several recreational sports leagues around Austin and try to find time to go hiking, rock climbing, or swimming in the numerous natural pools around the Austin area.

My main goal in life is to become a successful filmmaker, and I hope to write, produce, and direct my own feature film before I turn 30.

Jolyn Janis

Bio

Jolyn Janis grew up on the beach of Maryland and currently lives in Austin, TX where she is a professional actress and graphic designer and true jack of all trades when it comes to the arts. Jolyn received her degree in graphic design from North Carolina State University's College of Design; whether its drawing, acting or photography, you'll most certainly find her involved in some sort of creative endeavor.
In high school, Jolyn had her first “major life-altering experience” on an Outward Bound trip through the Pacific Northwest. An outdoor enthusiast was born, as she has been interested in reciprocating the wonder and potency of that experience ever since. She led her own adventure travel group years later where she backpacked in the Lost Coast and rafted in the Trinity Alps in northern California with eight 16 year olds. Her travels have also taken her throughout Jordan and Jerusalem where she lived with locals and went on various desert adventures with an archaeological dig group. Jolyn is in love with all things water related and was trained by a Navy Seal for her advanced certification in scuba diving. Her favorite trip was 2 weeks in a secluded dive resort in Roatan, Honduras exploring shipwrecks, reefs and swimming with dolphins. Her acting career has awarded her the lead in three feature films, Supporting in two features, Guest Star on a national television show and the Lead in seven short films. When she's not on set, you can find her biking downtown Austin, writing at a coffee shop, planning new travels or building her energy efficient storage container home.

Haley Phillips

Bio

Haley has difficulty writing about herself because it always comes off as a bio for a dating site; she prefers pineapple-based drinks, dislikes long lines, and hopes to sky dive one day.  She cannot wait, however, to Get Lost in Loudoun!

Haley is a native Texan and like any upstanding, decent Texan, she is darn proud of it.  She is also secure enough in her Texacanity to welcome any chance she gets to explore outside the state! After graduating Baylor University in 2007 with a BFA in Performance, Haley moved to New York City to pursue a career in the creative arts.  Immediately following her move, she was thrilled to join the Revolve Tour drama team, which allowed her to travel the country for two years with a fabulous group of people.  After three Stevie-Wonderful years in the city, Haley decided to take a risk, move to Austin, Texas to begin an internship with the Austin Film Society.  Best decision thus far.  This opportunity introduced her to many contacts within the film industry, provided a glimpse into the world of a nonprofit organization, and ultimately led her to Get Lost in Loudoun.  During her internship, she was able to land a job working at a winery in the Texas Hill Country.  What a day job!
Lately, Haley’s idea of a perfect day is hanging out with her new niece, Addison, continuing her search for the best BBQ in Texas, throwing down Karaoke challenges to any and all that dare, and booking a flight to somewhere new.  Her best ideas happen while fishing or running.  She could not be more excited to get to Loudoun…and she hopes to skydive one day.

Questions

Where were you born?

Baytown, Texas.  Never lived there, but was born there nonetheless.

Three words to describe you?

Exuberant, Industrious, Turquoise

Who’s your celebrity look-alike?

I have a few Drew Barrymore characteristics, but I’m pretty much always trying to be Tina Fey.

Favorite 80s TV show?

Hands down Northern Exposure.  I used to sneak out past bedtime and watch it behind the couch in super stealth mode so as to not get caught by my parents.

What makes you laugh?

Honey badgers, Mocumentaries, and my nine-month-old niece, Addison.  She does this thing with her nose.  It gets me every time.

What makes you cry?

I have to turn the channel when the ASPCA animal rescue commercial comes on the television.  Darn you Sarah McLachlan and your angelic voice of melancholy.

Dog or cat?

Dog. Specifically, poodles named Arthur.

People would be surprised to learn:

When I was in 5th grade I wrote an award-winning short story entitled, Rapunzel and the Blood-sucking Talent Agent  I was ahead of my time with the whole vampire craze thing.

What’s gives you competitive advantage for competing in “Get Lost in Loudoun”?

I have never had a problem making a complete fool of myself. I jump in with both feet, sometimes not at the same time, thus prone to tripping, but nevertheless I take chances and welcome adventure.
